It seems that in the review, a Sansui cd player (CD-X711) was used that has the same D/A converter as the amplifier, so no difference was observed. The reviewer mentioned trying another cd player, but didnt mention the brand name, and he said the other cd player didnt have a digital output, which made it difficult to make an A/B sound comparison.

As for the Stereophile review, I recall that there was a followup to the first review that came out a few issues later- when I have the chance to go thru my stacks & stacks of hi fi mag backissues, I'll let you know about what it says on the 911. Or if you need the Info right away, you can go on the Stereophile website and see if they have the backissue available.
