The impression I get from the AU-X701 description in the Sansui catalog is that it is built to handle difficult speaker loads, but, perhaps if your speakers do dip closer to 2 ohms, then maybe the 701 does exhibit some signs of effort to drive them.
If you could borrow my Sansui BA-5000 (I have two of them) or my B-2301, I think they could handle your speakers quite easily :)
