Hi Art:

-8DB is like turning the volume knob know past halfway, to about 75% of full maximum, which is LOUD. Are your speakers that inefficient to require such volume or do your ears just prefer blasting-loud volume levels?

The Loudness control is meant to compensate for the ear's lesser ability to hear low bass notes at very low volumes, such as when playing background-type music. The Loudness control is not meant to be used at higher volumes and using it that way does cause the amp to have to work harder. But if some people such as yourself really need to have that heavy bass, so be it. But maybe you should try a subwoofer instead to get the bass you crave

The AU-G77X II is the successor to the regular AU-G77x and appears to be better built than the regular G77X.
