Hi,
I also have a Sansui 500A. There are early and late models, which are quite different in several areas - mine is the late model ( 1968 ) which uses 6BL8 in the discriminator of the tuner. Using EL84 ( late model )is a no no because the B+ is runing at 430V, so only 7189A fits the description. Can use 6P14 EB or EL84M, but you need to rewire. I found the unit sound like modern valve amplifier - clean, non vintage sounding. BTY I need to replace all the oil caps because they ALL leaked and died. Yesterday, my unit is playing tricks on me - all treble gone!
Please provide a bit more info of your unit and share the experience.
