Just after getting my first full time job in 1989, I bought a Sansui AU-X701 and TU-X701.... still after all those years, it is still up-to-date, part of my living room and fit wonderully the decor with the nice black piano finish... Sound and quality is amazing... Something you want to keep for a life time... Toda to replace it, it will cost way too much money.. And sometime, they are not even as nice... The only thing I regret today is that I did not buy the CD player CD-X901... Maybe one day I'll find one in perfect condition.. Ciao

I am the owner of a Sansui AU9900 intergrated amp connected to Sansui LM-330 speakers. The protection circuit light on the amp comes on sometimes and I also sometimes get a loud crackling or rustling sound from one of the speakers. Anyone with an idea whats going on? It sounds GREAT when its playing. mail me ASAP.

RESPONSE TO AMAR (AU-919): The value of R84 is 390 ohms, 1/3 W resistor. As for causes of the protector light coming on, here is a message I pasted from an Online friend of mine: Here are the causes I know about for flashing protect light: 1. DC on the output caused by fault in the output stage. 2. Shorted transistor in the protection circuit, either in the output stage or relay drive/protection circuit. 3. Open capacitor in the protection circuit causing false tripping of the protection circuit. 4. Open or high value emitter resistor.

Have a 5000x and the tuner control (knob) slips when moving from station to station. The connecting cord and pulleys all seem to be functioning properly and the slippage seems to be occurring on the stem of the tuning knob.

I have a SANSUI au-919 Pure Power amplifier. It ran at full power for a few hours and then went on the blink. Thanks for the Power protection System in this unit. Now when I turn it on, the power protection light blinks and no sound. I am somewhat handy with electronics. I found R84 on borad F2839 is burnt out. I cannot see the stripes on the Resistor so I cannot figure out the value for replacement. If anyone has a Service Manual or a Schematic, can you please tell me the value of the replacement. I will be eternally grateful. Aloha from Hawaii amar@hula.net

Thank you Beatle Fred for the information. I think you are right that the replacement boards are no longer available due to the passing of time. But so far the replacement of the varistors has done the trick. (14 years ago and counting. It seems that the 5000A was replaced by the Sansui Eight. But a friend of mine had a 5000A and it sounded so good that I bought a new one rather than the Sansui Eight. They don't make them like that any more as most of the units that are available now sound ok but seem to lack any real sonic power at low outputs other than a boom box effect that has no soul only loud and louder. I would like to get a tube unit but the costs are high even for a used one. Newt

Newt: The 5000A and other Sansui receivers that have the F-1040 board: This board had a product recall by Sansui as it had a tendency to go bad (cause blown output transistors from what Ive heard) the replacement bd was F6013. This was of course 30+ years ago so obviously Sansui isnt around as they once were to change this board if you wanted to do that now. But just thought I'd mention it to you if you werent aware of it.

The defective device in my 5000A was a varistor not a thermister.

Hello Great site. I have a Sansui 5000A with SP 3000 speakers plus a RA 500 reverb unit. I bought it new while I was in the service 1970. Well it really runs good as ever today so good that the guy down the street said that I had to turn it down while testing out my old Stones and Hendrix 8 track tapes. The only problem I had was that the output transistors started blowing out during "testing sessions". Come to find out that the problem was that there is a little thermistor that sits on top (with a little clip) of the driver transistor for the output transistor that went bad. After looking at the prints and seeing that this little device controlled the current to the output transistors I put in some new ones and some high power General Electric output transistors and it has not had a problem since no matter how much Hendrix I give it. PS. you will know if these little devices go bad as the output transisters run real hot then blow. The out put transisters should be just warm under normal conditions. (The 5000A also really cranks out when using my wifes Madonna CD)

Once out of college and a commissioned Naval Officer, I had some money. This was 1970 and SANSUI was KING. I started with the 5000(1971) to the 7000 (1972) to the EIGHT (1972) to the QRX-6500 (1973). Kept that until I bought the AU-G99X (1986). Sansui went south in the 80's so I switched to SONY "ES". If I had a time machine, I'd go back to the 70's and SANSUI...a time when audio was "way cool". Great Site...a blast from the past!!!!

Congratulations on a great web site. The information and images are an excellent addition to the history of the Sansui brand. I am a proud owner of an original AU-70 integrated amp. All tube and a nice sound. In my opinion, Sansui often gets overlooked in the headlong rush to Dynaco, Scott, Marantz and others. Sansui was a smaller player, but their receivers were some of the best. Same with the tube equipment, well designed, well put together and solid value. Thanks again for a great site!

Great site. I am the original owner of a 1000x receiver. I bought in 1971 and have had it in constant use up until several months ago. It even survived college and was on its 3rd pair of speakers. I was going to post it on e-bay but now am enthused about getting back up and running.

Loved your site. I have owned an AU-999 for over 30 years and use it regularly. FYI it did blow (2) 10 cent diodes (crackling sound) but I fixed that easily. Still sounds and looks great and packs a punch! When I bought it I had a lab check it out. They said it was under-spec'd. when compared to the factory specifications. Now that's integrity!

Hi all, would just like to say what a great and informative Sansui site this is!:) Being a collector of vintage Sansui gear, I love all the pics of the gear, especially the tube stuff. Older Sansui stuff in NZ is getting harder to come by now as we had massive import restrictions in the 1970's which mean't a lot of gear did not land here, but its good to know there are big followers like myself in the USA and worldwide. Cheers!

A Great Site! I was a bench tech in the '70's and repaired alot of 5000X receivers, and did Sansui, Pioneer & Revox warranty repair also. Just acquired a Z-9000X for $100.- on ebay, and love it. Way better performance & sound than I expected from the digital tuner & amp; they still used some good/big parts even that late (1982?). I would like to submit full pix & info to your site, but don't have any schematics/manuals yet.
