I believe that the mechanics movement up and down is controlled by a flywheel. If you open the bottom of the deck you probably can see the wheel. Try to turn the wheel in the direction it used to move and the mechanical part with tape heads should move upwards. Then you should be able to open the door. The reason for the door problem can also be that the tape is wounded around the capstan axle.
