Hello Patrick:

To help answer your question, I was looking through some of my Sansui collection of hi fi literature. I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment, so I cant devote 100% attention to the matter right now, so I was basically skimming over the literature I have. My initial observation is that the AU-5500 is somewhat of an interesting model. Thats because, while it takes its model name from the series of amps in the Line, AU-9500, AU-8500, AU-7500...., the AU-5500 actually more resembles the next generation Line, AU-7900, AU-6900, AU-5900.... which have silver metal knobs instead of black on the previous Line. Perhaps when I have extra time, I can look over and further compare the AU-5500 and AU-5900. Also interesting is how the lowered-numbered models have pushbuttons for their various selector functions whereas the 5's and Up utilize knobs that look identical to some that are on the 9090DB receiver. In my brochure of the AU-5500- its a single sheet with info on front & back, the wattage is given as 32 Watts. The serial # in the back will tell you the year it was made- look at the third digit. 4 means 197->4, otherwise could be a 5 or 6, thus '75,or '76.
