You are referring to the overseas version (Japan only?)of the AU-D11. The AU-D11 had a list price of $1000 when it first came out in late 1980/early 1981. Being a top-line model and an amp of the best quality, I think its pricetag is very reasonable. I have reviews of the AU-D11 in Stereo Review & Audio Magazine from that time and they both were extremely impressed by that amp. I guess if you do a little Economics analysis & calculations, you can come up with what the equivalent price would be in 2003. Probably cost more for the D907 as it would be imported.
