I have an au 101 that I'm trying to sell if you're interested. It used to have a crackling sound coming from one of the speaker channels. I solved the problem by replacing one of the output tranistors that drive the speaker. I still have the circuit diagrams and the components listing to help trace the problem. Trouble is that the amp is so old now that finding a direct replacement component is difficult.
: :The electrolyic capacitors are drying up. These are those small "cans" that are on the circuit board. A value the same or slightly higher can be jumped across the suspected one (pay attention to polarity) and them fire up the amp. Do this until you find the one that eliminates the buzzing. This is a quick and cheap way of finding out. Normally one would use a signal generator and a signal tracer to find this out. This is actually a very common problem when amps get older.
