: Sansui made several speakers with the grill you described. The speaker with such a Kumiko Grill is probably one in SP-series. You can see "thumbnails" from brochures of Sansui Models at http://www.obsinc.us/Dep_VOVS_Literatures.htm

: : My brother bought a pair of Sansui speakers in the early 70's from a military PX when he got out of the Navy. They had a 12" woofer, two 4 or 5" midranges, two 2-2.5" tweeters, and 1 horn supertweeter.
: : The drivers were mounted real close together on the face, the cones were all brown colored (not black)and the grill was made of wood fashioned in a sort of lattice pattern, with brown cloth behind. The overall speaker size wasn't real big considering all the drivers.
: : Any idea what these were and are they any good?
Sound real good, but in my opinion they sound best with tube amplifiers. I have the sp-3500's with Dynaco Mark IV's.
