Sansui DVD 3500 - Any info?

Hi There

I recently purchased a Sansui 3500 DVD player. The player has an input for a microphone as well as a volume control for the mic. However no where in the manual is there any reference to the mic input/volume control.

My question is this, will the microphone only work when playing Karaoke CDs or DVDs as with anything else, the mic does not work.
