I was reading various posts on this forum and found a few that talked of "glue" being used on electrolytic capacitors. Does anyone else know of the use of this glue? I have recently started purchasing 70's audio gear (stuff I lusted after when I was a teen) and have seen what appears to be a tan, waxy looking substance around the base of some capacitors. I recently replaced two 470 mic caps on the "function board" (the board on which the function switch is located) on my recently purchased Sansui 9090 receiver.... they were definitely leaking. However, I just purchased a Hitachi HA-270 (late 70's vintage) 70 watt per channel integrated amp and I noticed the two large power supply caps have a waxy look around their base.... suggestions? Is it likely they are physicaly leaking? The Sansui 470 mic caps only cost me a couple of bucks, but 7500 mic power supply caps will definetly set me back more.... help.

later all, Randy
