: Well, most of the vintage units will put out some more power on the testbench than what its rated for, but I think it depends on the model, some may put out a bit more, others not so much and so forth. Probably the best source of information on that is to read thru old backissues of Stereo Review, Audio mag etc.. and see what the reviews were on whatever model youre interested in.

: As for the stuff made nowadays, if its the generic cheap black plastic A/V receiver, then I doubt there's much they offer as far as power capabilty goes- they are best suited to home theater and have the convenience of video jacks to be able to easily connect vcr's and dvd players to it. Generally speaking, you wont find huge power supplies, capacitors the size of beer cans, etc.. :) in them, as you would in hi fi equipment built in the days before cd players came along. I think to get the excellent quality nowadays, you need to look at hi fi items shown in magazines like Stereophile and be willing to spend quite a bit of money. Some brands like NAD for example, overlap into both the "hi end" and the lower level, but still above-average, consumer electronics level at reasonable prices.

Hi B/F
Thanks for the heads up ! I've never had the funds to be a true audiophile. I do have a black and plastic surround sound receiver. It sits in the basement collecting dust. The kids like it. I'm running my pair of Sp-9900x with a JVC receiver now . Till the G22k gets done. Then the fun begins :o) Can't wait !
I'll be checking out Audiokarma soon ! Army
