There were 3 generations of G receivers made between 1977 and 1980. The G-5000 is a first generation model and its midway in the G-9000...G-2000 Line. The G-5000 is rated 45 Watts. The 2nd generation models, such as G-7500, G-5500 were very similar and the third and last gen was the G-9700...4700 Line which is distinguished by the darker background color of the tuner display, thinner switches, slightly smaller illuminated Sansui logo, and most importantly, the digital station readout of the tuner section. (In case you were interested to know, Sansui was making the 9090DB..5050 Line before the G models in '76/'77 and the 9900Z..3900Z Line afterward in 1980-81).
The G series models are excellent both in construction & sound quality, so I highly recommend them. And yes, they look fabulous too. They also werent kidding when they said 'Pure Power' on the front panel :)
For price guidelines, check the listings of G models on Ebay to see what the avg selling prices are- the Completed Auctions section stores results of auctions for 1 month. Or you can go to www.audiokarma.org where I moderate the 'Exclusively Sansui' Message Board - there is someone named Paul ('morden')who has recently compiled a large Sansui database of models, serial #'s and pricing Info.
