There could be any number of things.
The problem could be simply a series
of bad solder joints, it could also be
in the front control switches such as the
volume or balance control. There
could be a fault in the preamp
or main amp section. It could also
be a speaker protection relay if it
has one. Its hard to say for sure
without bench checking it but
this will give you a few possibilities.
The unit should be repairable unless
it needs a part that isn't available anywhere.
